ISLAMABAD: Barrister Sultan Mahmood Chaudhry, the President of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK), has emphasized the importance of resolving the Kashmir dispute following the UN Security Council resolutions.

He made it clear that the division of the former state of Jammu and Kashmir was unacceptable to the people of the disputed region.

During an address at a function on Saturday, President Chaudhry stated, “Let it be clear that Kashmiris will not allow the partition of Kashmir under any circumstances.”

He reiterated that Kashmiris’ only aspiration is to implement UN resolutions that guarantee the right to self-determination for the people of Jammu and Kashmir.

President Chaudhry expressed unwavering support for the ongoing freedom struggle in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK) and emphasized the solidarity of the government and the people on his side of the Line of Control (LoC) with their Kashmiri brothers in their struggle for freedom against India’s illegal occupation.

He emphasized that all political parties were unified in their stance on the Kashmir issue. President Chaudhry criticized the Indian government, led by the BJP, for attempting to alter the demography of IIOJK by settling Hindus in the region. He stated that this move aimed to legitimize actions taken after August 5, 2019, including potentially appointing a Hindu chief minister in the area.

The AJK President lamented the involvement of India’s 900,000 military personnel in widespread human rights violations in occupied Kashmir. He commended the sacrifices made by the Kashmiri people. He expressed confidence that the day would come when the people of IIOJK would achieve their goal of liberation from Indian occupation.

President Chaudhry also called on Kashmiris living abroad to raise awareness about the freedom movement actively. —APP
