OIC, Gulf Research Centre Host Cultural Symposium on Ramadan in Jeddah

JEDDAH: The General Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), in collaboration with the Gulf Research Centre in Saudi Arabia, held a cultural symposium titled “Ramadan – A Collective Rite for Muslims” at the OIC headquarters in Jeddah.

During the symposium held on Wednesday, OIC Secretary-General Hissein Brahim Taha delivered a speech highlighting the significance of cultural work as a unifying force that bridges communities, promotes Islamic values, and strengthens cultural heritage. He emphasized the importance of cultural diversity as a valuable asset for Islamic countries.

The symposium was graced by the presence of Dr. Abdulaziz Bin Sagr, President of the Gulf Research Centre, who announced the commencement of the partnership between the Centre and OIC through this event. He expressed optimism about the potential for fruitful collaboration and important studies in the future.

Distinguished speakers at the symposium included Ambassador Akram Karimi of Tajikistan, Ambassador Ibrahim Jallow of Sierra Leone, Dr. Ismail Khalil Kutubkhana, Ambassador Dya-Eddine Said Bamakhrama of Djibouti, and Dr. Abdulmohsen Al-Qahtani, who discussed various cultural and social aspects of Ramadan rites across OIC member countries.

The event welcomed numerous ambassadors, esteemed guests, intellectuals, and scholars from the Muslim world. 

A memorandum of cooperation between OIC and the Gulf Research Centre was signed during the symposium, outlining plans for joint initiatives, knowledge exchange, and collaborative events. 

Assistant Secretary-General for Humanitarian, Cultural, and Social Affairs, Ambassador Tarig Ali Bakhiet signed on behalf of OIC, and Dr. Abdulaziz Sagr signed for the Gulf Research Centre.
