ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s cricket captain, Babar Azam, has vehemently refuted the Indian media reports that he engaged in a shopping spree during his stay in India for the World Cup 2023. The reports claimed Azam purchased jewelry and clothing, including a designer sherwani worth 700,000 Indian rupees.

In a statement released by an agency representing Babar Azam, the claims were categorically rejected. The agency expressed surprise over the news, emphasizing that Azam had not engaged in any such activities during his time in India. The statement also urged media outlets to exercise diligent fact-checking before spreading misinformation, disinformation, or propaganda.

Pakistan Players in India for World Cup

During the World Cup, Pakistan players in India have faced strict security measures, confining them to their hotel rooms for most of their time. The tight security has left players feeling stifled, with Pakistan team head coach Mickey Arthur describing the situation as “stifling,” reminiscent of the restrictions during the Covid-19 pandemic. Several players have experienced health issues, with some attributing them to the confinement.

It’s worth noting that this tournament marks Pakistan’s return to play in India since 2016, and the heightened security measures have limited players’ interactions and activities outside their hotel premises.
