ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan on Wednesday moved the Supreme Court (SC) against alleged rigging during the general elections held on February 8, 2024.

The plea was submitted by the incarcerated former Prime Minister, Imran Khan, urging the apex court to form a judicial commission to thoroughly investigate the alleged electoral malpractice that marred the 2024 general elections. The petition specifically calls for the commission to be comprised of Supreme Court judges and advocates for the suspension of both federal and Punjab governments until the commission’s report is issued.

The move follows demands from Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Ali Amin Gandapur, who also sought the constitution of a judicial commission to probe into the cipher case and alleged rigging during the recently-held general elections. Gandapur highlighted discrepancies in the electoral process and emphasized the need for a transparent inquiry into the manipulation of election results.

PTI leader Asad Qaiser announced intentions to mobilize against what he termed as the “stealing” of their electoral mandate. Qaiser asserted that PTI would collaborate with other political factions to launch a peaceful movement across all provinces against the purportedly rigged election.

Former National Assembly speaker Qaiser underscored the significance of the movement, stating that it transcends mere political interests and is aimed at safeguarding the nation’s democratic principles. He reaffirmed PTI’s commitment to upholding the rule of law and ensuring fair electoral processes, emphasizing that their struggle is in the best interest of the Pakistani populace.
