ABERDEEN, SCOTLAND: Astonishingly, after thirty years, a woman took back her handbag that was stolen three decades ago, in Scotland. The bag was discovered in Aberdeen, a city in Scotland.

The bag, originally owned by 81-year-old Audrey Hay, and was taken from her at former workplace in the city. It was found by a young lady during a walk and later reached to bag’s owner through social media.

It’s suspected that the thief might have taken 200 pounds from the bag before discarding it into the River Don.

During a stroll with her parents at the River Don, eleven-year-old Maisie Coutts stumbled upon the old bag on Tuesday.

Power of Social Media

Social media played a crucial role in locating Audrey Hay. Among the items in the bag were pens, coins, lipstick, earrings, a key, and tablets.

Talking to a state-owned news outlet, Maisie said, “I was just walking around with my dog, my mum, and my dad, and then I pointed out, ‘Oh, there’s a handbag.’

Then I said, ‘Maybe there’s something in it.’ So then we decided to open it, and we saw a credit card and saw the name.

She further said that they got confused that who is this, are they dead, are they not?

We got home and saw the name Audrey, and I did some research about her; I figured out a bit about her.”

Kim, Maisie’s mother, shared, “When we noticed the dates on the cards were all 1993, I thought, ‘Oh my goodness, this has been in the water a long time.’ I posted on social media, and eventually, we did trace Audrey. Audrey confirmed it was her bag and that it was stolen three decades ago.” Mrs. Coutts added, “The power of social media is incredible.”

Expressing her gratitude after reclaiming the bag, Hay recounted that my bag was stolen, I was out of the office, and when I came back, my bag under my desk had gone. I called the police, and they took a statement.  She further mentioned that the bag originally contained 240 pounds.
